A former GOP operative torched President Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again movement on Monday after the president expelled several major media outlets from the White House.
Trump banished CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House grounds in an announcement over the weekend, claiming that the outlets have routinely spread “fake news” about his administration. The move has already backfired, as his helipad unveiling ceremony was broadcast in silence after Fox News, ABC News, CBS News, and NBC News pulled out of the White House press pool in protest.
Some of Trump’s supporters argued that the move is justified, even though the evidence presented has been lacking. For instance, Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) claimed that Biden expelled 400 reporters during his administration, a claim fact-checkers have found untrue.
Rick Wilson, a founder of the anti-Trump group The Lincoln Project, torched Trump’s MAGA faithful in a pithy social media post.
“So when the next Democratic Administration bans Fox, Newsmax, and OAN from the White House, you’ll be fine, right, MAGA?”Wilson posted on X. “Is that how this works?”
Wilson’s post came just hours after major media outlets filed a lawsuit over Trump revoking their credentials. The case landed in the lap of U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly, whom Trump appointed during his first term and who previously ruled that Trump’s revocation of Jim Acosta’s press credentials was illegal.
