President Donald Trump moved Sunday to rectify a poll he published after angering some of his religious followers with a proposed name to take the place of “artificial intelligence.”
On Saturday, Trump described the term “artificial intelligence” as “inaccurate,” arguing that a different term was better suited to describe the fast-advancing technology. Via a poll he published on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump asked his supporters to choose one of three proposals: “Superior Intelligence (SI),” “Extreme Intelligence (EI),” or “Supreme Intelligence (SI).”
The third option angered religious MAGA, some of whom pushed back, arguing that “God is the only Supreme Intelligence.”
Following the feedback, Trump published an updated poll on Sunday that excluded “Supreme Intelligence,” though suggested the backlash was related to the term sharing a word with the Supreme Court, which he’s increasingly lashed out at for ruling against some of his plans.
“‘Supreme Intelligence,’ probably because of its relationship to the Supreme Court, is losing badly to both ‘Superior’ and ‘Extreme Intelligence,’” Trump wrote. “Therefore, we are going to take ‘Supreme Intelligence’ OUT, deleting it as a qualifier, and let you vote for the Final Two: Superior Intelligence, or Extreme Intelligence. A fresh Vote begins now!”
Roughly an hour after Trump published the new poll, the president’s followers on Truth Social appeared to prefer the term “Superior Intelligence” by a slim margin, though it’s unclear how Trump plans to enact a universal term such as “artificial intelligence.”
Trump has come out in defense of artificial intelligence data centers in a strong break with Americans, the majority of whom are against local data center development. In July of 2025, Trump signed an executive order to accelerate permits for data center construction.
Trump previously attacked Americans opposed to data center construction, accusing them of wanting to “end up being backwards and poor.”
