A deranged driver allegedly drove his car onto the sidewalk near the White House and demanded to speak to President Trump, causing a wild scene in D.C.
The man allegedly drove near the security barrier on the sidewalk at the corner of 16th Street and H Street at Lafayette Square around noon Saturday, triggering a massive law enforcement response.
Metropolitan Police Department officers, members of the military and Secret Service officers rushed to the scene, The Sun reported.
The man was allegedly demanding he speak to President Trump as he was being arrested, seemingly unaware that the commander in chief was on vacation at Camp David at the time, the outlet reported.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital for a “mental health evaluation,” a Secret Service spokesperson said in a statement to The Post.
The spokesperson said that surrounding roads were shut down “out of an abundance of caution” and that a sweep of the man’s car didn’t turn up anything.
“We appreciate the swift actions of our Secret Service Police Officers and are grateful for the Metropolitan Police Department for their prompt response,” the Secret Service said.
This isn’t the first time someone has driven dangerously close to the White House.
A driver of a grey Acura was arrested in October 2025 after trying to smash through the security gate outside the White House while President Trump was inside the executive mansion.
In March, a driver was detained after plowing through a temporary security barricade at at Madison Place and H Street Northwest near Lafayette Park.
President Trump has been the target of numerous assassination attempts that came perilously close to taking his life while in office and during the 2024 campaign.
California schoolteacher Cole Allen, 31, allegedly opened fire one floor above the grand ballroom at the Washington Hilton where the White House Correspondents’ Dinner was taking place on April 25, 2026.
Allen allegedly hit the bulletproof vest of Secret Service agent who went on to return fire but missed.
The alleged shooter is now in federal custody awaiting trial.
Trump was nearly shot in the head by Thomas Matthew Crooks while delivering a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania in July 2024.
