Carrot Top (real name: Scott Thompson) was being extorted over a sex tape prior to his reported suicide attempt Friday, according to court documents obtained by Page Six.
Ronnie Bitman, the comedian’s attorney, claimed in a Sept. 3 filing in Broward County, Florida, that musician Brian Evans — a previous opening performer for Thompson’s long-running show at Las Vegas’ Luxor Hotel and Casino — threatened to leak an X-rated video of his client if he wasn’t paid.
“Evans demands immediate payment of significant sums and states that, absent immediate payment, a sexually explicit recording of Thompson will be filed in the public court file so that it may be obtained and disseminated by the press and other parties,” Bitman wrote, in part.
The court filing included an email from Evans to Bitman in which he requested $500,000 “in immediately available funds, in exchange for resolution of all claims against” Thompson or else he’d release the video, which was on a USB drive, in a public docket.
In the email, Evans writes, “It is not a threat. I am not offering to create coverage, stop coverage, or trade silence for money. I cannot control what outlets write after a public motion is filed. The only thing that stops coverage is if we both stop filing anything.”
“I am telling you … that I would rather resolve the claims against your client [Thompson] than continue this motion practice,” Evans added.
Evans’ email ended with a note that, should Bitman not meet his deadline, “it is not an offer your client will ever see again — not even remotely close.”
In a statement to Page Six, Evans said the aforementioned email was “intended to be confidential” and said he “never threatened — ever — to post any video anywhere in exchange for a settlement.”
Evans claimed the video “was deleted a long time ago” in accordance with a prior settlement.
“I am sorry that Scott apparently did something to hurt himself,” Evans told Page Six, noting that his grandfather died by suicide. “He’s a great talent but these are issues he needs to deal with and move past.”
Evans said he doesn’t “consider Scott to be a bad person,” but claimed he “made a few decisions that were not good ones,” adding, “That is not a reason to hurt himself.”
“Scott is still young and has a big life ahead of him. It’s not my intent to bring this guy down. It’s the opposite,” he continued, later noting, “Thankfully he is still with us.”
Evans sent Page Six a court document he said he filed Sept. 17 asking the judge in a case against Thompson, which he opened in Broward County, Florida, on Aug. 6 to be recused.
This court filing was not available in the online docket for the case, at the time of publishing.
In a statement to Page Six, Thompson’s representative, Jami Schlicher, noted that Evans has been declared a “vexatious litigant,” with a judge describing his court filings as “serial” and “spurious.”
This is reflected in a filing from the United States District Court in the Southern District of Florida filed Sept. 4 — two days prior to Evans’ initial filing in his Broward County case.
In that filing, a United States District Judge declared that Evans had filed “no fewer than fifteen pro se cases in this District since 2025, all of which appear frivolous. One such case listed involved Thompson as the defendant.
Schlicher told Page Six that the court’s findings and Evans’ litigation record “speak for themselves.”
In his lawsuit against Thompson in Broward County, Evans alleged that the comedian sent him unsolicited footage of himself engaging in oral sex with a person back in 2022 or 2023.
Evans stated that he was “shocked, disturbed and offended” by the video.
Per the docs, Evans claimed Thompson convinced him to sign a settlement agreement in 2024, which he now wants dismissed on the grounds that “at the time it was executed, [Evans] lacked the mental capacity necessary to knowingly and voluntarily enter into a binding contract” due to suffering from “severe psychiatric injuries sustained” following the Maui wildfires in 2023.
In court documents obtained by Page Six, Judge Shari Africk Olefson ruled Thursday that Evans — who is representing himself in the case — had improperly filed motions in the case as an “emergency” when “criteria was not met.”
“The court finds such non-compliance to constitute an abuse of the emergency motion procedure,” Olefson wrote.
Olefson also granted Thompson’s motion to strike or declare confidential certain information filed by Evans — including references to what Thompson’s attorneys characterized as “irrelevant unrelated videos, text messages and facts” — from the record.
The judge wrote that Evans agreed to the request “without objection” multiple times during a hearing and ordered the parties to submit proposed language identifying the material at issue.
The news comes after sources told TMZ on Friday that the comedian had allegedly attempted suicide the same day.
According to an image obtained by the outlet, multiple cop cars were seen outside Thompson’s Las Vegas home on Friday afternoon.
Schlicher, confirmed his hospitalization in a statement to Page Six, saying that he’s “recovering in the hospital and is receiving the care and support he needs.”
“His family and those closest to him are deeply grateful for the concern, prayers and respectfully ask for privacy,” she added, without addressing the circumstances leading up to the star’s hospitalization.
Thompson’s weekend prop-comedy shows at the Luxor were canceled, seemingly leaving the residency — which has been running since 2005 — up in the air.
