Explosive reports about Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) having affairs with three staffers are sparking widespread outcry about her hypocrisy.
A flurry of criticism came after an ethics complaint alleged that Boebert carried on a sexual relationship with her district director, Clarice Navarro Ratzlaff, and two other staffers.
On Saturday, Boebert denied the allegations in comments for a report by Sources Say, which added that the author of the complaint, David Wheeler of American Muckrakers, alleged that Boebert’s current district chief of staff, Raven Finegan, and former chief of staff Jeffrey Small were also engaged in sexual relationships with the MAGA congresswoman.
“Well, I’m not a lesbian or bisexual, and I have never, ever been in any inappropriate relationship,” Boebert told Sources Say. “Nor have I ever been sexually involved with any staff.”
Navarro Ratzlaff also denied the allegations as “entirely false, defamatory and beyond ridiculous,” according to the Colorado Times Recorder.
The complaint also alleged that Boebert paid roughly $200,000 in hush money when Navarro Ratzlaff threatened to tell the House Ethics Committee. House rules bar members from sexual relationships with any House employee under their supervision.
Boebert has framed herself as a defender of “family values” and traditional Christian morality while building much of her political brand on opposition to LGBTQ rights, online critics pointed out on Saturday.
“There are no bigger hypocrites than Republicans who preach hate on behalf of their purposeful misinterpretation of their religion,” blasted Democratic political strategist and healthcare advocate Melanie D’Arrigo in a post reacting to the news.
“Lauren Boebert spent years attacking LGBTQ people as ‘groomers’ while reportedly having a four-year-long lesbian affair in her office,” charged writer and trans activist Ari Drennen.
Democratic strategist Matt Royer posted a video of Boebert responding to reports of misconduct by her colleagues by saying, “Go to church, find Jesus, like, I mean, why is everybody so horny here?”
“You know,” Royer wrote. “This soundbite has a little bit of a different connotation now.”
