Mark Zuckerberg’s Wife Has Set Strict Limits on Their 11-Year-Old Daughter’s AI Use

For as long as we can remember, Meta has been the tip of the surveillance state spear. The company has amassed an unprecedented amount of intimate data about billions of people — and treated that invasive information with a well-documented level of carelessness.

One of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s most beloved pet projects, the company’s camera-adorned and AI Glasses, has brought the company’s shoddy treatment of privacy into stark relief, from data labeler contractors in Kenya watching footage of users getting undressed to failing to take down vile smart glasses-recorded footage of sexual harassment on public streets.

Meanwhile, Meta’s platforms are choking the web in a tidal wave of horrifying AI slop, including a plethora of visceral videos of physical child abuse — footage Meta has told Futurism doesn’t necessarily break its policies.

It’s the kind of dystopian environment Zuckerberg is seemingly trying to shield his own daughter from — sort of. According to a new profile about the Zuckerbergs in Colossus, the CEO’s wife, Priscilla Chan, boasted that the couple’s 11-year-old daughter Maxima has been vibe coding messaging apps and FarmVille-like games. (The piece doesn’t specify which daughter, but we doubt the other one, who’s only three, is capable of vibe coding just yet.)

But creating anything that access the internet is off the table for Zuckerberg’s offspring.

“She’s quite limited, because Mom doesn’t let her build things that are open to the internet,” Chan told Colossus. For instance, the daughter “wanted to build a dating site,” which “was a no.”

The remarks are vague — it’s not clear, for instance, whether the daughter is allowed to interact with chatbots that are connected to the internet, even if she’s forbidden from using them to build online apps — but they gesture at a longtime trend: tech executives profiting massively off tools while limiting their own kids’ exposure to them.

It’s clear from reading the profile that Chan does believe vibe coding is a meaningful way of allowing her daughter to “build things,” which she called an “innate” desire that “just came” and — of course — had nothing to do with her father’s obsessive decades-long quest to do just that.

“It’s been all on her own,” Chan told Colossus.

What this kind of hobby — and unrelenting exposure to AI slop — could do to a developing mind remains a debated subject among experts. But the early consensus is troubling.

Some researchers have found that all of that slop is corrupting children’s brains, particularly when it comes to violent and extremist content that more often than not falls through the cracks. And as Maxima Zuckerberg’s father knows all too well, ensuring that underage users aren’t exposed to this type of content is far from easy.

Then there’s the risk of having minors becoming socially isolated by turning to AI chatbots for company, a possibility that feels all too real for a young daughter of a tech CEO billionaire.
