Speechless GOP operative coopts Bryan Cranston’s screams to vent Trump rage

A Republican operative working on House races didn’t try to spin it. Asked to react to President Donald Trump’s latest comments dismissing voter anger over gas prices, the operative — speaking on condition of anonymity to be candid — sent back an animated image of actor Bryan Cranston screaming an expletive that begins with the letter F.

The gif-level exasperation captures the sense of panic setting in among Republicans as Democrats grow increasingly confident heading into the midterms, reported the Washington Post.

Trump, campaigning Wednesday in North Carolina, told supporters that fuel prices nearing $4.50 a gallon — driven up by his administration’s war against Iran — were “a very inexpensive price to pay” for the military action, which rattled the GOP candidates and operatives already worried that affordability, not foreign policy, is what’s on voters’ minds.

Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) offered a more measured but no less bleak assessment this week, acknowledging Republicans are facing “headwinds” in the fight to hold Congress. “It’s not a great environment for us,” Thune said, though he insisted the party’s candidates in competitive Senate races remain viable.

Republicans are openly acknowledging their concerns as poll after poll shows Democrats are far more enthusiastic to vote than GOP voters.

Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) told reporters Thursday he’s traveling to Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa to raise money for GOP Senate candidates — states he said should have been easy wins.

“If you told me six months ago I was going to be having to spend my time in those three states, I wouldn’t have believed you,” Kennedy said. “Those ought to be fat guy layups for us.” He predicted Republicans would ultimately hold the seats, but the fact he’s spending time and money there at all is being read as a warning sign.

Vice President JD Vance is set to campaign in Iowa on Friday, one of the states Kennedy name-checked.

But Rep. Ashley Hinson, the state’s Republican Senate nominee, won’t be appearing alongside him. A spokesperson for Hinson cited scheduling conflicts, though the absence comes as she works to emphasize her bipartisan credentials in a state Trump carried by 13 points in 2024 — and as she faces a tighter-than-expected race against Democratic state Rep. Josh Turek.
