An author warning that superhuman artificial intelligence could wipe out humanity is partnered with a self-described sex worker who publicly chronicles orgies, gangbangs and extreme sexual kinks.
Nate Soares, president of the Machine Intelligence Research Institute and co-author of the bestselling AI doomsday book “If Anyone Builds It, Everyone Dies,” has been publicly described as a partner by Aella, an online writer who has made her sexual exploits and proclivities a recurring subject of her work.
In one public exchange, Aella, who earns as much as $100,000 a month as a creator on OnlyFans, singled out Soares while discussing consensual non-consent.
Responding to a user who wondered how someone would make the kink more “energetic,” Aella wrote: “Nate v good at that it’s horrifying.”
Aella was posting about Soares as recently as Tuesday, joking in response to a meme portraying him as an exhausted superhero that “nate really does look like that” after stretches of “2 sleep deprived weeks working nonstop” on meetings, media appearances, emails, group chats and overnight flights.
Soares has emerged as a particularly pessimistic voice in the AI safety movement, arguing that building superhuman systems using anything resembling current methods could result in human extinction.
In an autobiographical essay, he wrote that he decided as a teenager that he wanted to “save the world,” initially focusing on political systems before discovering LessWrong and becoming convinced that artificial intelligence posed a more urgent threat.
He later worked as a software engineer at Google before joining MIRI full time in 2014 and rising to executive director the following year.
He became president in 2023 as the organization shifted more of its emphasis from technical alignment research toward warning policymakers and the public about the dangers of advanced AI.
“No, I promised to save the world,” Soares wrote of his youthful ambitions. “That promise still stands.”
Aella’s writings, meanwhile, offer a far more intimate glimpse into the personal world surrounding one of AI doom’s most visible advocates.
In a February 2024 post, Aella said that “my partner and some friends” organized a birthday gangbang for her that drew 42 attendees.
She did not name the partner in that post, but because she has elsewhere publicly identified Soares as her partner, it raises the possibility that he was involved in organizing the event.
In one graphic Substack essay dissecting her own sexual psychology, she described being at an orgy where three men held her down while she struggled — a scenario she immediately stressed was a fetish she had voluntarily chosen.
“I’m at an orgy. Three men are holding me down as I struggle,” she wrote, before making clear that she found the encounter arousing and had consented to it.
The encounter became uncomfortable when one participant put his weight on her elbow, she wrote, prompting her eventually to call “yellow” — a signal to slow down and check what was wrong.
Aella later referred to the encounter as a “gangbang scene” and used it to explain the difference, in her view, between men who can closely read a partner’s physical reactions and those who cannot.
She repeatedly warned readers not to mistake the violent imagery for an account of abuse.
“All the stories below are CONSENSUAL, I don’t regret any of it,” she wrote before launching into what she described as “pretty graphic, specific examples” of sexual experiences she found particularly satisfying.
Aella has also publicly discussed consensual non-consensual sex in connection with Soares, describing him as “very good” at being “energetic” during it and adding, “it’s horrifying.” She has also said the pair filmed porn together.
Aella has continued writing candidly about her sex life.

In a recent Substack dispatch, she promoted “Slutcon,” an event she described as moving away from a traditional conference format toward an “intensive workshop” aimed at helping attendees improve their sexual and flirting skills.
She also used the post to compare the prowess of men she has dated.
A new man she was seeing was so skilled at oral sex that he could, she claimed, bring her to orgasm in roughly three to four minutes.
Her “previous partner,” meanwhile, was “very good at sex” — “legendarily good,” according to women in her friend group, she wrote.
Aella did not identify either man in that passage.
“You do not become a legendary master at sex by having an ego that prevents you from acquiring new information,” she wrote.
She said organizers of Slutcon had been overwhelmed by interest from women seeking to participate as “flirt girls,” adding that the event had reached a roughly one-to-one gender ratio among attendees, excluding volunteers.
Aella closed the sales pitch by inviting prospective attendees to “come and say hi and shamelessly hit on me.”
“I love getting catcalled,” she added.
In the same Substack post promoting Slutcon, she opened by describing an explosion of anxiety over AI safety after Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei and Elon Musk publicly backed slowing development.
“My social circle is buzzing like someone just poured water into their anthill,” Aella wrote.
“There’s desperation and hope in the air.”
She also promoted a Berkeley gathering for people concerned about AI extinction risk, saying people from AI-safety organizations and a former OpenAI policy researcher would be on hand to talk.
Aella, for her part, continues to write about both subjects.
After several paragraphs about AI extinction fears in her recent dispatch, she pivoted to the other matter occupying her attention:
“Slutcon is in a week and a half!” she wrote. “It’s going to be very good.”
