Macaulay Culkin chokes up during Catherine O’Hara tribute at 2026 Emmys

Catherine O’Hara’s “kids” gave heartfelt speeches honoring their onscreen mom at the 2026 Emmys on Monday night, with Macaulay Culkin getting visibly emotional during his segment.

Macaulay Culkin, 46, Annie Murphy, 39, and Dan Levy, 43, appeared together on stage to pay tribute to the late actress.

Levy and Murphy played O’Hara’s children on all six seasons of “Schitt’s Creek,” while Culkin played her son in the “Home Alone” movies.

Culkin choked up as he described the late actress as his “mama.”

“Like a good mother, she always showed up when I asked her to because that was Catherine,” he shared. “That’s what she did; she showed up. And this is the best that we can do for her tonight, showing up for her.”

“She may have forgotten me…twice,” he joked, referencing the premise in the two “Home Alone” movies, “but we will always remember her.”

Murphy described O’Hara as someone who “spread light” and “brought us joy.”

“The greatest lesson I learned from Catherine was to always say yes,” Levy shared, adding that she was always “miles ahead” but he learned to catch up.

“Say yes to her dinner invites and her stories and her wisdom and her generosity,” he continued. “These are the things you will hang onto the tightest.”

Earlier in the evening, on the red carpet, Levy, told E! News that his black rose — worn on his left lapel, just over his heart — was in honor of the beloved actress.

O’Hara died on Jan. 30 at the age of 71. It was later revealed that the “Home Alone” actress died from a pulmonary embolism.

The following month, she was laid to rest in a private memorial ceremony held at St. Martin of Tours Church in LA.

Since her death, several of her friends and fellow actors have paid emotional tributes to her.

Back in March, Rachel McAdams honored her and Diane Keaton during the 2026 Oscars “In Memoriam” segment.

Earlier that month, she was also included in the SAG Actor Awards 2026 “In Memoriam” segment.

It was also during that awards show that O’Hara won a SAG-AFTRA posthumous award — and was the first woman to ever do so.

She earned the trophy for outstanding female actress in a comedy series for her role as Patty Leigh in Apple TV’s “The Studio.”

The show’s creator, Seth Rogen, accepted the reward on her behalf onstage, and gave an emotional speech.

“She really showed you can be a genius and kind, and one doesn’t have to come at the expense of the other way in any shape or form,” he said as the audience clapped.

“We’re lucky to live in a world where she shared her talent with us.”

“Words seem inadequate to express the loss I feel today. I had the honor of knowing and working with the great Catherine O’Hara for over 50 years,” Eugene Levy, who played O’Hara’s on-screen husband on the show, told Page Six in a statement.

Annie Murphy, who played O’Hara and Eugene’s on-screen daughter, shared her own tribute on Instagram.

Alongside pictures of them on set together, Murphy wrote, “Ha-ha-HAAAA?!?! Her laugh was a perpetual Yes, And… It challenged anyone who heard it to join in, and be as delighted as she was. Gosh, were we ever lucky to have her.”
