President Donald Trump made his thoughts clear on an increasingly urgent concern that’s roiling the tech industry.
The 80-year-old president’s aides have reportedly pressed him to reverse course on artificial intelligence and deliver a dramatic prime-time address to announce regulations to regulate certain aspects of the AI race that even tech companies want paused, but Trump reiterated his belief that government should stay out of the way.
“The only control or ‘guardrails’ that AI needs is a STRONG AND SMART (High IQ!) PRESIDENT, and the U.S.A. has that, in spades!” Trump posted Monday morning on Truth Social. “The Trump Administration has stopped AI ‘people’ from doing bad, or potentially bad, ‘things,’ like Dario (Anthropic!), who is now pretending to be a ‘perfect little angel’ – and we will continue to do so!”
Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei publicly endorsed slowing the pace for improving AI model capabilities, which was endorsed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and xAI founder Elon Musk, but Trump declared regulations were unnecessary.
“We already have tremendous CRIMINAL and REGULATORY power over these companies!” Trump posted. “There is a SICK conspiracy going on against AI and Data Centers, and the only one that is happy about it is China. WHOEVER WINS AI, WINS! We are leading China, and all others, and will continue to do so. Conspiracy Theorists, Treasonists, Traitors, and Leakers, BEWARE!”
