MAGA Senate hopeful obliterated after attack on Dem opponent backfires spectacularly

Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers attacked his Democratic opponent recently for campaigning “with people who say America deserved 9/11,” but a new report published Saturday exposed Rogers’ own checkered history with the terror attack.

On Thursday, Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed criticized Rogers for voting to “deny health care for 9/11 first responders” on two separate occasions. As a U.S. House member, Rogers did, in fact, vote against a 2010 bill designed to provide health care for 9/11 first responders and survivors, arguing at the time that the legislation “jeopardizes the financial health of the United States.”

Rogers called El-Sayed’s claim a “lie” and attacked him for campaigning with progressive streamer and activist Hasan Piker, who in 2019 said “America deserved 9/11.” Immediately after his remark, Piker argued that an attack on U.S. soil was inevitable due to American military interventionism abroad.

“You’ve got some nerve,” Rogers wrote in a social media post on X. “You campaign with people who say America deserved 9/11 — then lie about me to try to save yourself.”

On Saturday, the Detroit Metro Times published a report that revealed Rogers had not voted against providing health care for 9/11 first responders two times, but rather, nine times.

“A Metro Times review of congressional records found nine separate votes or legislative actions between 2003 and 2010 in which Rogers opposed, tried to block, or sought to restrict federal health care funding for 9/11 responders, seven more than previously reported,” the Detroit Metro Times’ report reads.

Upon seeing the report, El-Sayed took to social media to issue Rogers a backhanded apology.

“You’re right. Sorry,” El-Sayed wrote Saturday in a social media post on X. “Turns out you didn’t vote to deny 9/11 first responders healthcare twice. You did it NINE times.”
