President Donald Trump’s campaign is already trying to squeeze cash out of followers on the questionable promise of a $5,000 check, according to a new report.
A Never Surrender, Inc. email landed in supporters’ inboxes with the subject line “IF WE WIN, HOW MIGHT A DIVIDEND CHECK BE WRITTEN OUT TO YOU?” the liberal Meidas Touch network reported Friday morning.
The email reportedly dangles the $5,000 figure and asks recipients to “CONFIRM NAME,” a step designed to make it feel like supporters are already moving toward receiving a real payment.
In reality, the entire proposal depends on Republicans winning both the House and Senate in November, something far from guaranteed, and Trump hasn’t laid out any legislative path for actually delivering the payments. Trump has hinted he could pass the proposal without Congress, but hasn’t offered any legal mechanism how that would work.
This isn’t the first time Trump’s operation has turned a phantom government check into a fundraising tool. Similar email campaigns previously promoted $5,000 “DOGE dividend” checks from his Department of Government Efficiency program, and $2,000 tariff rebate checks, neither of which ever materialized into an actual payment to voters.
