DALLAS — House Republican Conference Chairwoman Lisa McClain plans to frame Democratic policies as “communist” and too “radical” for American voters in a Republican midterm convention speech on Thursday.
McClain’s speech focuses on policies championed by some progressive Democrats,including abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement and prior calls to defund the police, according to a draft of the speech reviewed by The Washington Post, which has not been previously reported.
Republicans have sought to campaign against such policies, calling them “communist” in their appeal to voters, as they campaign to maintain their majorities in Congress.
McClain (Michigan) is expected to target Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic candidate running for U.S. Senate in Michigan, highlighting his stance on abolishing ICE and his close political relationship with Hasan Piker, a left-wing political commentator.
