A MAGA activist who tried to remove thousands of Georgia voters from the rolls now has a state job investigating elections.
Jason Frazierwas quietly hired as an investigator by Georgia’s Republican-controlled State Election Board after flooding Fulton County with voter challenges, according to a new Mother Jones report.
“This man is trying to suppress votes, and he’s happy to suppress as many as he can for any reason he can,” said a police sergeant targeted by Frazier because his address incorrectly listed “Boulevard Boulevard” instead of “Boulevard Drive.”
His challenge was just one of thousands Frazier filed against voters in the heavily Democratic county that is home to Atlanta. The MAGA activist’s efforts were part of a wave of mass voter challenges that followed President Donald Trump’s narrow loss in Georgia in 2020.
“If the takeover of the State Election Board by conspiracy-promoting Trump allies seemed brazen, the elevation of Frazier ups the ante in their war on fair elections,” Mother Jones’ Abby Vesoulis wrote, pointing out Wednesday that Frazier earns $70 an hour despite having no formal investigative experience.
According to the report, Frazier challenged 5,001 registrations at one March 2023 meeting alone. His submissions made up most of the 15,000 challenges Fulton County received during 18 months. Local election officials rejected the vast majority of those challenges, the report added.
Fulton County commissioners later blocked Frazier from joining the county election board.
“But the relief was short-lived,” Vesoulis noted. “Within two months, Frazier was hired into his more consequential role at the state board, where his purview now includes investigating voters in all 159 counties.”
