The Chainsmokers spark fury with tone deaf comments after 14 hospitalized at San Jose show

The Chainsmokers have sparked fury after they tried to brush off concerns that more than a dozen people at aCalifornia show needed to be hospitalized.

The San Jose Police Department said 14 patients were hospitalized for a variety of reasons, including “suspected alcohol intoxication and drug-related issues.”

Commenters quickly pounced on the obliviousness of the post. “Didn’t like 14 people get hospitalized??” one person wrote.

But the group didn’t mention it in a post about the concert. “Damn San Jose this show was chaos!!!!! Will bring a louder horn next time that’s on us,” they wrote in an Instagram post.

“Wow downplaying that 14 ppl went to the hospital during your show is not it. Wouldn’t be a bad idea to do education around drugs and alcoholic and bystander awareness if ppl are getting that fucked up at your show and it’s ‘nothing out of the ordinary’ to you,” another added.

The Chainsmokers replied to some of the backlash, downplaying the hospitalizations as simple alcohol intoxication.

“Some kids drank too much apparently,” they wrote in a reply.

“Everyone is fine,” they added. “This happens at concerts as you can imagine. I’m not sure why certain news articles are trying to make it a story.

“We saw the articles day after and asked the event organizers if anything happened and they told us nothing out of the ordinary for a concert…. Seems like media succeeded in making a story but everyone is fine.”

Paramedics were called to the venue just minutes after the opening act went on last week. The concert began at 5 p.m. at the city’s Discovery Meadow and ended by 10:34 p.m., according to ABC 7.

Police said paramedics treated some patients at the park, but at least 10 people were taken to the hospital, the outlet reported.
