A potential 2028 presidential contender plans $20 million to help Democrats

Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (D) will lead a new political action committee to help Democrats get elected to Congress this fall, aiming to spend some $20 million on their campaigns ahead of a potential 2028 presidential run.

The Ready for the Fight PAC is named after a line he uses regularly in speeches (“Are you ready for the fight?”), usually in regard to taking on the administration of President Donald Trump.

The fund will seek to boost Democrats not only in competitive House races, but also in districts that decisively went for Trump in 2024, according to a PAC news release. The launch was first reported by Politico.

Among the “most extreme MAGA Republicans” the PAC plans to target with ads in coming days are Rep. Max Miller of Ohio, who is under investigation for alleged domestic violence, and Brandon Herrera, a House nominee in Texas who has a history of inflammatory comments on his YouTube channel.

Pritzker, a billionaire who is running for reelection this fall, has personally spent at least $12 million to help elect Democrats this cycle. He has positioned himself as a top Trump critic, particularly over the issue of violent arrests by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Illinois.

The governor has been coy about his own presidential ambitions but is widely seen as a likely contender. “I don’t know what I’ll be doing after I win reelection,” Pritzker told the Rev. Al Sharpton at a National Action Network convention in April. “But I’ll tell you this, I’m going to fight like hell to elect a Democrat in 2028.”
