Across California and the Southwest, luxury hotels are expanding traditional spa menus with everything from cryotherapy and red light therapy to sound baths, cold plunges and geothermal soaking.
At Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, the recently renovated spa offers treatments including cryotherapy, LED red light therapy, sound healing and zero-gravity relaxation, alongside more traditional spa services.
In Napa Valley, Spa Alila at Alila Napa Valley blends ancient healing traditions with modern wellness experiences, including yoga, dry brushing and personalized scent rituals.
L’Ermitage Beverly Hills is taking a more technology-driven approach, offering guests access to an immersive SAVA Sound Pod designed for meditation and sound healing.
At Castle Hot Springs in Arizona, the surrounding landscape becomes part of the experience. Guests can soak in mineral-rich geothermal hot springs, take part in floating sound baths and explore wellness programming spread across the secluded desert property.
Other resorts are leaning into contrast therapy and the outdoors. Rancho Valencia Resort & Spa in Rancho Santa Fe combines spa treatments with cold plunges, fitness and sound baths, while The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay draws inspiration from its Northern California setting with treatments including its Redwood Forest Ritual.
The shift reflects a broader change in luxury travel, with wellness becoming less about a single treatment and more about creating an entire experience around rest, movement and recovery.
