Former NFL quarterback and football pundit Mark Sanchez filed a motion seeking to plead guilty and requesting a sentencing hearing in connection with his 2025 assault case in Indianapolis, TheWrap has confirmed.
The motion was filed Thursday, just days before Sanchez’s trial was set to commence.
“The parties have reached a resolution that will obviate the need for the jury trial,” the paperwork, filed by both the defense and prosecutors, noted, according to media reports.
The trial, initially scheduled for March 12, was set to take place on Sept. 8 following a series of delays.
Attorneys are requesting that sentencing take place on Nov. 9 or Nov. 16. It is unclear to what charges Sanchez pled guilty.
“This is a positive development. We are finalizing an agreement with the prosecutor’s office that provides a path toward resolving the state’s case,” Nick Sanchez Jr., Sanchez’s brother and legal adviser, said in a statement to media. “We’re also encouraged by the constructive conversations taking place regarding the related civil matter. There is real momentum toward bringing this entire chapter to a close.”
The incident occurred in Oct. 2025, when Sanchez was charged with battery resulting in injury, public intoxication and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle after a late-night altercation with 69-year-old truck driver Perry Tole.
Sanchez allegedly approached Tole as he was unloading an oil fryer at a hotel, with surveillance footage showing the former athlete opening the driver’s door before the driver attempted to contact hotel security.
Sanchez was accused of grabbing Tole and pushing him to the ground, with Tole later pepper spraying Sanchez in the face. Tole then stabbed Sanchez after the game analyst continued to confront him physically. The truck driver filed his own civil suit against Sanchez and the Fox Corporation over the incident.
Sanchez previously played football for the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears and Washington Commanders (then known as the Washington Redskins) before pivoting to a career in commentary. He served as an analyst for ESPN from 2019 to 2021, then for Fox Sports from 2021 until the 2025 incident, when he was fired. He was in Indianapolis for Fox to cover a game between the Colts and Raiders at the time.
