In “Lane Being Lane,” John Talty’s terrific, eye-opening new biography, an amazing anecdote perfectly sums up both polarizing college football coach Lane Kiffin and his sport. The book is chock-full of insight and sometimes salacious detail about its subject, who crossed into the mainstream last year when he left the University of Mississippi right before the school’s team played in the College Football Playoff to coach hated rival Louisiana State University. That made him college football’s foremost villain, the soulless avatar of all of the sport’s failings.
