There’s a list of celebrities supporting Mark Ruffalo after the “Avengers” star’s latest anti-Israel bombast.
Gina Carano might have settled for just one A-list defender. Or even a D-list dweller.
Ruffalo’s chronic anti-Israel rhetoric finally caught up with the 58-year-old actor. Several Jewish groups chastised his recent anti-Paramount merger rhetoric wrapped in what some called antisemitic tropes.
“Larry Ellison will own most of ‘Para Bros.’ Larry is a classic Oligarch. They are crushing workers and consolidating the wealth of the world for their own power and concentrated dominance.”
Paramount fired back, too, highlighting the troubling nature of his comments.
“Words like ‘genocide’ and ‘apartheid,’ applied to a corporate transaction, aren’t just wrong — they’re a bridge too far, and they cheapen the very real suffering those words are meant to describe.”
Stars such as George Clooney, director Joel Coen, “Hacks” alum Hannah Einbinder and many more have rushed to Ruffalo’s defense. Director Kenneth Lonergan (“You Can Count on Me”) also chimed in, calling charges that the actor is antisemitic “overtly preposterous” and a “cynical and disgusting lie.”

Ruffalo hasn’t lost a single gig, at least not yet, as a result of his comments.
The same can’t be said for Carano. The breakout star of Disney+’s “The Mandalorian” TV series got dumped by the Mouse House in February of 2021 for a social media post equating the early days of Nazi Germany to “othering” people for their political beliefs.
“Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views?”
Hyperbolic and clumsy? Perhaps. Prescient? Possible.
Antisemitic? Not remotely so.
She was fired all the same and has yet to work in a mainstream Hollywood project after years of steady gigs in films like “Deadpool,” “Fast & Furious 6” and “Haywire.”
Hollywood ignored Carano’s dismissal. No stars defended her free speech rights, nor did any suggest she was unfairly dismissed. Her “Mandalorian” colleagues eventually shared stories of her warmth and humanity.
Comedian Bill Burr, a co-star on the series, described Carano as an “absolute sweetheart” on the set weeks after her dismissal. At least he said something. Co-star Pedro Pascal defended Jimmy Kimmel last year after ABC suspended him for lying about the person accused of murdering Charlie Kirk.
Pascal said nothing publicly on Carano’s behalf, even though the actress has described their working relationship as friendly.
Even Hollywood feminists like Scarlett Johansson, Reese Witherspoon, Alyssa Milano and Meryl Streep, couldn’t utter a syllable in Carano’s defense then … or now.
Why rush to support Ruffalo, even though he hasn’t suffered professionally, but not Carano’s? It’s simple. Ruffalo is a rock-ribbed progressive, one of Hollywood’s most outspoken Leftists.
Carano, at the time, didn’t declare her political affiliations but often shared views that didn’t sing from the progressive hymnal.
That’s it.
Carano shared a single statement that sparked her firing and career cancellation. Ruffalo’s anti-Israel rhetoric dates back more than a decade. His latest comments proved so toxic his attempt to get the Anti-Defamation League’s CEO, Jonathan Greenblatt, to have his back failed miserably.
This isn’t the first time Hollywood stars turned their back on a peer over a speech cancellation.
Roseanne Barr’s ugly, racially-charged Tweet against former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett wrecked her Hollywood career. Even Barr’s closest colleagues on “Roseanne” stood down rather than defend her.
More recently, British singer M.I.A. got canned from Kid Cudi’s 2026 tour after she shared right-leaning views from the stage. She’s suing Cudi on free speech grounds, but no major singer or actor has stood up for her right to speak her mind.
Ruffalo shouldn’t lose work or be “cancelled” for sharing clunky, at the most generous interpretation, anti-Israel messaging. Stars needn’t hold all the “correct” opinions to keep working, and his ignorance on Middle East issues doesn’t impact his acting chops.
It would be nice if the galaxy of stars rushing to his side gave Carano a second thought on the subject.
Or even a first.
