Four-years-ago Anne Hathaway is in big trouble with the MAGA movement, apparently.
The Hollywood star should have known better than to express her personal views during an interview about her personal life, according to a Fox News host, a senator, a second-place swimmer and their minions.
“This is truly sick,” Laura Ingraham fumed. The MAGA social media commentator LibsofTikTok added, “DEMONIC.”
That’ll teach Anne Hathaway from four years ago.
The topic, of course, was abortion and Hathaway’s comments when she discussed American women’s lost right to have one on “The View” in Nov. 22, the Daily Beast was among the first to report.
The Supreme Court had just overturned Roe v. Wade and co-host Joy Behar asked Hathaway to respond.
“My own personal experience with abortion, and I don’t think we talk about this enough, abortion can be another word for mercy,” Hathaway said. “How can we have a law, how can we have a point of view on this that says we must treat everything the same? When you allow for choice, you allow for flexibility, which is what we need in order to be human.”
While Hathaway’s media team didn’t immediately respond to the Beast’s request for comment, conservatives had a lot to say.
Republican Sen. Mike Lee replied on X with a strange play on a famous quote from “The Princess Bride.”
“Anne Hathaway: `Abortion can be another word for mercy,’” he wrote. “Babies: `The word `mercy’ doesn’t mean what you think it means.’”
Riley Gaines, the swimmer-turned-anti-trans commentator, suggested people who seek abortions did so because pregnancy was “inconvenient.”
Studies suggest that states that imposed abortion bans saw pregnancy-related deaths rise nearly 10 percent in the year after Roe v. Wade was overturned.
Some states report a mounting trend of women nearly bleeding to death during miscarriage.
