‘Chaos season’ arrives for GOP as Trump puts ‘every Republican’s name’ on toxic issue

It’s “chaos season” on the campaign trail, and the first serious week of the fall sprint is already a mess for Republicans thanks to their own party leader.

That’s the read from the political outlet NOTUS, which declared the arrival of “chaos season” in its Tuesday morning newsletter, noting that September of an election year is when campaigns lock in the message they’ll ride into November. For weeks, GOP leaders and candidates had carefully built a data-center-skeptic pitch, echoing voters souring on the sprawling AI projects as roughly three-quarters of Americans now say they’d oppose one in their own community.

But Trump blew those efforts apart with one post.

“Let Data Reign,” the president wrote Monday, warning communities that if they resist the projects they’ll end up “backwards and poor.”

Trump’s message brought the hot debate into black-and-white terms for his party, and some Republicans balked on the spot.

“President Trump and I don’t see eye to eye on this issue,” posted Darren Bailey, the Republican nominee for Illinois governor.

Democrats took the post and ran with it.

“He just put every Republican’s name on the deed to every data center in America, and on the return address to every power bill,” strategist Jesse Ferguson told NOTUS.

The stinging timing also comes after an NRSC memo obtained by Axios branded data centers a “sleeper issue” for the whole cycle. The president’s crusade drew repulsion from conservatives this week.

NOTUS’s Mara Hoplamazian reported developers are now courting wary towns, including one project in Hazle Township, Pennsylvania, with pledges to drop $10,000 into every local family’s account. The move left some residents characterizing it as a bribe.
