A good Samaritan jumped into the Hudson River Saturday morning after seeing someone dive into the dicey waters off Manhattan just moments earlier — but ended up needing to be rescued himself, cops said.

A 24-year-old man first went into the drink around 9:20 a.m. at West 43rd Street and 12th Avenue, prompting the 50-year-old witness to jump in to save him, cops said.

FDNY rescue swimmers were quickly called to the scene, an FDNY spokesman said. They lowered a rescue swimmer wearing special equipment into the water and “he was able to make contact with one of the patients and get him up the ladder,” the spokesman said.

A second rescue swimmer then pulled the good Samaritan to safety, he said.

The younger man who intentionally dove in first was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital for a mental evaluation, police sources said. The good Samaritan was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Christopher Reddick, 37, of Canton, New Jersey, said he saw the first guy plummet into the water and then the second follow right behind him.

“He was brave,” the maintenance worker said. “He just jumped in there and he helped him.”

The man who jumped in was face down in the water, he said.

“The guy saving him, he knew how to tread water,” Reddick added. “Then two guys jumped in with wetsuits.”
