Lil Nas X is mourning the death of his mother, Tameka Hill.
“RIP TO THE BADDEST EVER! LOVE U FOREVER MOMMY. this one’s gonna hurt. 
,” the rapper, 27, wrote via Instagram on Saturday, alongside three photos of Hill.
Nas, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, had a complicated relationship with his mother.
His parents split when he was 5, and he moved into his grandmother’s home before his father gained custody when he was 9.
Tameka struggled with addiction.
“I never really talk about my mom,” the Grammy winner shared in a 2020 interview. “She’s an addict so we don’t have the closest relationship. Even trying to get her better — things didn’t quite work out. But there’s still love.”
Nas has been open about his own sobriety journey amid his mental health issues.
“So, tomorrow is my 10,000th day alive and … I made it!” he said in a Monday video shared via his Instagram Stories. “A lot of y’all won’t make it but I made it.”
He completed an in-patient treatment program in late 2025 for undisclosed “issues.”
“Ever since I got out of rehab, everybody’s, like, [so] nice to me. I could be like ‘Hey’ and everybody’s going to be like ‘Oh my God, you’re so brave,’” he said in a Tuesday social media update. “I can try to post a thirst trap on my Instagram Story, and then it’s going to be somebody like, ‘Keep fighting King.’”
Last June, the “Old Town Road” hitmaker revealed he had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
“I’ve been in rehab for a few months and since then, I’ve been back at home — whether it’s in Atlanta with my family or in Los Angeles with myself, friends and whatnot — and trying to ground myself down to earth and get out of my head,” he shared on Instagram, adding that he now has “a therapist now and a psychiatrist, which has been really helpful when I got my bipolar disorder diagnosis.”
Nas confessed to being aware he had a mental health condition but was reluctant to “take medication and have people think different(ly) of me.”
“I’m already Black and gay. Like, ‘Damn, God.’ Black, gay, bipolar. I’m like living life on like extreme hard mode,” the “Industry Baby” hitmaker, 27, added with a laugh.
“But on a serious note, I’m doing much better. I’m doing better, I’m feeling better. I’m creating freely and there’s less fear in my heart,” he explained.
The performer’s diagnosis comes nearly a year after he was seen roaming the streets in Los Angeles while only wearing white underwear and boots.
He was arrested at the scene after he allegedly punched a cop in the face before he was hospitalized.
The Songwriter Hall of Fame inductee was charged with four felonies, including battery with injury on a police officer and resisting an executive officer, after he allegedly attacked cops who were trying to detain him.
Lil Nas pleaded not guilty to the charges and in April, a California judge granted him entry into a mental health diversion program.
