Veteran Democratic political strategist James Carville predicted that President Donald Trump would leave by April and thereby weaken Vice President JD Vance.
In a Friday episode of the Politics War Room podcast, Carville continued pushing that Trump will resign and leave the White House because he gets fed up with the job, a prediction he made earlier this year.
However, Carville said the move will really hurt Vance. Carville has previously predicted that Democrats will win the House and the Senate in the November midterms, and he factored that into his damning vision of the Vance White House.
“When this happens and Vance becomes president, he’s definitely not going to have the House. I don’t think he’s going to have the Senate, and he’s going to be a lame duck,” Carville said. “He’s only going to have less than two years to go.”
Carville added that he expects Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who’s seen as competing with Vance to be Trump’s hand-picked successor, will make the job tougher for Vance. Carville said Vance’s downfall will take the GOP down too.
“Lil Marco will be sniping at him, and then the whole Republican Party is going to fall apart when they lose all these seats,” Carville said. “They’re going to know that Trump doesn’t protect them.”
Republicans are already “mortified” about the polling ahead of the midterms, Carville continued. He noted that they’re even down in South Carolina, where Trump endorsed GOP nominee for the Senate, Darline Graham. Trump “can barely protect them in a Republican primary in Oklahoma,” Carville said. The current situation spells trouble for Vance in terms of the power he will have, Carville stressed.
“JD Vance, in my opinion, will be president next April,” Carville said. “He will be the most constrained, ineffective, babbling president in the history of the United States.”
