‘Astonishing’: Dem Senator scorches Trump admin’s ‘hypocrisy’ on boat strikes

Sen. Mark Warner(D-VA) bashed President Donald Trump’s administration in a new podcast interview on Sunday over what he described as “hypocrisy beyond belief.”

Warner joined veteran GOP analyst Bill Kristol, editor at large of The Bulwark, on a new episode of “Bulwark Takes” on Sunday to discuss the The Trump administration’s strikes against alleged drug boats. Since taking office, the administration has conducted more than 20 strikes, killing more than 80 people, according to reports.

Warner said the administration has has taken a tough-on-drugs stance, but that seems to contradict some of Trump’s actions. He pointed to Trump’s pardon of former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernández, who was convicted of drug trafficking, money laundering and arms dealing under the Biden administration.

“The hypocrisy of going after these guys at the same time the president pardons a convicted drug dealer who was the former Honduran president who was one of the masterminds is hypocrisy beyond belief,” Warner said.

He added that the strikes appear to be part of Trump’s unspoken policy of seeking regime change in Venezuela, pointing to the buildup of U.S. military assets near the country’s border.

Warner also said Trump appears to be bypassing the normal process for approving such actions.

“I just it’s really astonishing to me,” Warner said, adding that the administration has given “no public testimony” or any documents lawmakers need to judge the president’s actions.
