Is the next Drake era going to include country in it? Considering how much he’s loving Ella Langley and her smash hit “Choosin’ Texas”, it’s not out of the question. During a show in Arkansas, the Toronto MC was spotted giddily singing along to the country star’s song. The camera went back and forth between the two, showing him blow a kiss and applauding her performance as the song continued. You can’t say that he’s not a fan, considering he crooned every lyric with her.
The reactions to Drake the Nashville prodigy have been mixed to say the least. On one hand, you had curious replies wondering if a collaboration could ever be in the works between them. Others are scoffing at him, calling him performative or trying to shoot his shot with how much he supports the song. “He ran through all the R&B industry so now he’s gotta tap into a whole other genre of females,” one person wrote. “He might be the thirstiest man to have ever lived.”
Drake’s connection to Ella Langley traces back to when the pair battled it out for the number one spot on Billboard. “Janice STFU” was emerging as the big hit out of the trifecta of albums he released. Typically, this would’ve anointed him another number one record. But there was one problem: “Choosin’ Texas” had an iron fist over the top spot.

The Nothing Was The Same rapper would eventually get his number one position. However, Ella Langley would also swoop it back up a couple of weeks afterward. In any event, Drake chose not to beef with another rival this time. Instead, the pair have exchanged friendly banter. Langley posted herself singing along to his 2011 collaboration “HYFR”. He responded in kind by saying she has a “goated pen.”
Drake isn’t the only one absolutely enchanted by “Choosin’ Texas” either. Matthew McConaughey is clearly head over heels about it too. In a segment on Jimmy Fallon’s late-night show, McConaughey, Fallon, and The Last Bison performed a bluegrass rendition of the song. A fan in the audience personally requested it in the suggestion box, and frankly, it was a great fit.
Langley herself was evidently freaking out about the whole thing. She posted “Omg I may never recover from this” on her Instagram story. Surely, that has to box Drake out of the number one slot even further now.
