Prince Harry promised to never stop courting Meghan Markle before they tied the knot.
The Duchess of Sussex reflected on the secret to her enduring relationship with her husband on Thursday’s episode of “The Drew Barrymore Show.”
While speaking to host Drew Barrymore, Markle recalled babysitting for a dad who once told her, “Meghan, when you meet your person one day, I want him to say to you the same thing I said to my wife when we got married, which is, ‘I vow to always date my wife.’”
The As Ever founder, 43, said she passed on the words of wisdom to the Duke of Sussex, 40, when they started dating in 2016.
“He goes, ‘I vow to always date you,’” she remembered Harry telling her at the time.
Markle said the practice of continuing to court each other well into their marriage has kept the spark alive.
“We have this connection, I think, because we’re so committed to treating each other the same way you did before you had a ring on it, before it was locked down — when you’re just courting each other and you can see all the good and joy in that butterfly period,” she said.
“That’s, I think, what keeps things really alive,” she added.
Markle admitted that she “did not expect” to meet her literal prince charming, telling Barrymore that “life is full of surprises.”
“I’m very lucky. I’m married to the funniest, sweetest, most charming [person] … and he’s an amazing father,” she gushed.
The former “Suits” actress said she “counts [her] blessings” because she has a partner who is “so supportive” of her.
Indeed, Harry has stood behind Markle throughout her various passion projects since they got married in 2018 and subsequently quit their royal duties and moved to California two years later.
Last year, Markle launched her lifestyle brand — originally called American Riviera Orchard but rebranded to As Ever — and this week she debuted her Netflix cooking show, “With Love, Meghan.”
Meanwhile, Markle has been by Harry’s side as he continues to run his Invictus Games for injured, sick and wounded military members and veterans.
The couple share two kids: Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.
