A proud dad from Alabama has gone viral for how he reacted to his son’s newfound hobby.
In a clip posted by Misha Bright (@mishakaybright), her husband Josh, 35, is silently cheering on their 9-year-old son as he plays his rendition of “Tequila” on the saxophone.
As a family in the music business, the Brights have a simple rule when it comes to their children and music: “If they want to try it, we’ll buy it and give them a chance,” Misha, 34, told Newsweek.
So when Jaxen, now 10, randomly asked for a saxophone one day, Misha hesitated.
“I was like, ‘I don’t know, bud. That’s pretty hard to learn.’ I absolutely discouraged it, but my husband went ahead and ordered him one,” she said.
The day it was delivered, the determined child tried to learn “My Heart Will Go On” from his favorite movie at the time, Titanic.
The clip, which has been viewed over 6.6 million times, began at a birthday party in Nashville.
“The live band that was playing had a sax player, and I videoed them playing ‘Tequila’ and showed it to Jaxen; that’s when he decided to learn it,” Misha said.
Misha frequently shares Jaxen’s progress on her TikTok page, and since picking up the saxophone, Jaxen has expanded his repertoire with other well-known hits such as “Uptown Funk,” “Careless Whisper” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love With You.”
Soon enough, Jaxen was perfecting the classic 1958 song at home, with his dad clicking to the beat and interjecting with the occasional “Hey!” for good measure. Jaxen even says “Tequila,” leaving his parents in stitches.
The clip received over 974,000 likes and 3,915 comments, delighting users across the internet.
“This is honestly the most wholesome thing,” one user wrote.
“As band teacher there is nothing better than parents who amp up their musicians,” said another commenter.
“Honestly I would have yelled tequila from the living room but I love that you guys are helping him find his passion,” a third user commented.
Misha told Newsweek that the reaction to her clip has been nothing short of incredible.
“Very uplifting and encouraging comments towards Jaxen, and even towards my husband and I as parents. It has boosted his confidence and desire to learn more songs.”
