President Donald Trump‘s cabinet could look different — and have a new scapegoat — in the near future as Republicans become more aggravated over the Iran war and the president, an insider said.
Raw America‘s Brian Karem, a veteran White House correspondent, detailed how Trump has faced mounting pressure over the Iran war as the Republican Party fractures.
“Trump’s recent decisions have spurred multiple Republicans in Congress to rethink their support of the Iran war, though most have refrained from publicly criticizing Trump,” Karem wrote. “Republican consensus seems to have centered on naming Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth as a convenient scapegoat for the war the longer it drags on.”
In an interview, Chris Vance, a senior adviser to “Our Republican Legacy,” an anti-Trump GOP organization, explained why Republicans want to “shake off the Trump stigma” and have been “seriously searching for sanity.”
“Those remaining with him know better,” Vance said. “They definitely know he’s dangerous, but because of greed or personal interest they aren’t going to come forward. Those who have are those he’s pushed out of office.”
Trump is now in a different position than he has ever been before.
“Trump is incredibly and increasingly insulated,” Vance continued. “There are Republicans on the outside who are trying to effect change, but those left inside are as delusional as he is.”
And as Pentagon officials have bypassed talking about the Iran war after Hegseth fired multiple high-ranking generals, that could be changing.
“The pressure against Hegseth is ‘mounting,’” a source disclosed to Karem.
“We could see movement on that front against Hegseth sooner rather than later, particularly if the current negotiations fail to produce any tangible results,” the source told Karem.
As confidence in Hegseth wanes, and amid reported low munitions, there has been “growing unease that will only ‘ease somewhat’ if Hegseth is forced out,” Karem added.
