Jill Stein, repeat Green Party candidate, faces assault charges in Missouri

Jill Stein allegedly kicked a police officer so hard in the groin two years ago that it’s landed her in some legal trouble today.

The three-time Green Party presidential candidate, who most recently ran in 2024, is facing misdemeanor charges of trespassing and assault in St. Louis over her role in a campus demonstration against the war in Gaza that year.

Neither Joseph Welch, Stein’s lawyer, nor a spokesperson for Washington University in St. Louis, where the protest took place, responded to a request for comment.

University police say that Stein was among dozens of protesters who refused to leave the university days before the start of final exams.

As police warned them they would be arrested, at least one officer approached them on a bicycle, and the group locked arms. Stein, and others in the group, grabbed the bike from under the officer riding it, according to a probable cause statement from a campus police detective.

A second officer trying to intervene was struck in the left forearm, according the statement, which was filed in March 2025. While the bicycle was in the air, Stein allegedly kicked the second officer “in the rear right leg and the groin.”

Stein was arrested, the statement said, and the officer was diagnosed with contusions in his testicles and right leg after having difficulty walking.

The case drew attention this week after a judge in St. Louis issued a warrant for Stein, who had failed to show up to a court hearing Monday. The warrant was withdrawn later in the day.
