A very excitable former official in Donald Trump’s first administration went off on the president and the GOP for heading into the midterms with nothing to appeal to voters.
Appearing on MS NOW’s “Morning Joe,” former State Department official Matt Bartlett was asked by host Jonathan Lemire, “What if you were a campaign manager right now? What is the message for Republicans heading to, you know, who’s up for election this November at a time when the president’s poll numbers are so low and Americans are so unhappy about prices, about the war in Iran, the list goes on and on.”
“Boy, you know, Jonathan, that is every question every Republican is asking, not just of the White House, but of themselves right now “ Bartlett exclaimed. “What is our message? We have nothing right now!”
“It is, at best, it is: please thank us for the Big, Beautiful Bill,” he continued. “Voters don’t vote, thank you. Sometimes they vote ‘eff you.’”
“And again, we have right now fountains, arches and ballrooms — it is an insult, he sneered. “It is an insult. Imagine you’re talking to some guy or some woman who is at the pump paying more money to just go to work. And what are you telling them? If you’re talking again about vanity projects, if you’re talking about some preposterous plan to pack the Supreme Court, they’re probably prone to turn the pump on you.”
“So again, I think Republicans, regardless of party, you need to be laser-focused on what people are talking about right now, which is — just it’s incredibly unaffordable to live, eat, and breathe in America,” he suggested.
