President Donald Trump’s increasingly strange rants about his White House ballroom project have befuddled even Bryan Lanza, senior adviser to the Trump 2024 campaign.
Lanza struggled to explain or justify what his former boss was saying during a segment on CNN Monday afternoon.
“Why is the president so focused on it, given the politics don’t seem to be good for him?” anchor Kasie Hunt asked him.
Lanza had a blunt response: “No clue.”
“I appreciate your honesty,” interjected Hunt.
“The politics do not appear to be good, but, you know, it doesn’t take the argument in a way that the White House needs to be a more secure facility, and that there is a military component to it. It just so happens to be coupled with this ballroom,” said Lanza. “But you know, I don’t know why we’re still pushing on this one. I don’t, I don’t have — I’ve got nothing on this.”
Ever since a federal court halted construction on the project, which was originally billed as a beautification of the White House funded by corporate donations at no cost to taxpayers, Trump has frantically labeled it a national security project, emphasizing that it can be used to protect against drones and other threats. He also posted an AI-generated video of himself with George Washington appearing to endorse the project.
