Key line ‘jumps out’ to analysts in theatrical Cassidy speech: ‘Did he bother to Google?’

Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA) ended days of drama on Friday by committing his vote to confirm Todd Blanche as attorney general.

But in a podcast released on Friday, Meidas Touch’s Scott MacFarlane and legal expert Katie Phang zeroed in on a peculiar justification Cassidy gave in his speech announcing his decision — one that appears to be completely made up.

“This line jumped out at me — [Cassidy] said Blanche is concerned about the January 6 pardons,” said MacFarlane, referring to the 1,500 clemencies Trump issued to Capitol rioters, including extremists who assaulted police officers, on his first day of office.

In fact, said MacFarlane, “I have never once heard Todd Blanche express an iota of concern about the January 6 pardons. I have heard Todd Blanche, at the CPAC conference — the Conservative Political Action Conference — earlier this year, triumphantly champion the January 6 pardons, say he deserves credit for them.”

Additionally, he said, Blanche has filed “court motion after court motion after court motion, through his U.S. attorney in D.C.,” to expunge the records of Proud Boys and Oath Keepers leaders whom Trump didn’t even give full pardons to, only commutations.

Ultimately, said MacFarlane, “I’m wondering if Cassidy even bothered to Google this.”

Phang emphatically agreed. “If you look at the filings, Scott, they all are coming from a Department of Justice attorney” who is under Blanche’s thumb, she said. So “Todd Blanche is fully cognizant of everything that is happening, and it is all happening because Donald Trump has christened it and blessed it and wants it to happen.”
