Weather scientists are tracking an unprecedented “Super El Niño” forecasted to shatter all modern records.
On Wednesday, The Washington Post’s global weather writer and meteorologist, Ben Noll, reported European weather models project temperatures +4.0 degrees Celsius above average in the tropical Pacific by December 2026.
A “Super El Niño” would far exceed previous records from 1997-98 and 2015-2016, which peaked at +2.6 degrees Celsius, he explained.
“This will have sweeping implications on global climate patterns from late this year into 2027,” Noll wrote.
Meteorologist Ryan Maue also wrote on X, “This “Super El Niño” will be perhaps the strongest in 500 to 1000 years.”
“And could legitimately be the most extreme global weather or climate event experienced by humanity since the invention of the printing press.”
The World Meteorological Organization also estimates 90% odds of the event occurring.
Consequences would ripple globally: atmospheric rivers deluging California, warm Canadian winters, ice storms across the Southeast, and supercharged heat waves and Pacific typhoons, explained Manue.
