The New York Times’ Revenue Rises 11%

The New York Times Company said on Wednesday that it had added 280,000 digital-only subscribers in the last quarter, pushing its total to 13.35 million.

The results keep the company roughly on pace to meet its stated goal of reaching 15 million subscribers by the end of 2027.

Total revenue was $762.5 million for the three months ending in June, an increase of 11.2 percent, the company said. Adjusted operating profit was $155.3 million, up 16.1 percent.

The company reported digital-only subscription revenue of $407.9 million, an increase of 16.4 percent from the year before. Digital advertising revenue jumped 20.7 percent from a year earlier, to $114 million. Digital-only average revenue per user, a metric used to measure the health of subscription businesses, increased 3.1 percent year-over-year to $9.94.

Revenue from affiliate, licensing and other categories increased 7.1 percent to $75.5 million, which the company said was mostly from higher affiliate referral revenue at Wirecutter, The Times’s product recommendation website.

Adjusted operating costs came in slightly higher than the company had forecast, with a 10 percent year-over-year increase to $607.2 million. The company said this was from higher compensation and benefits expenses, as well as higher marketing costs.

“Our results reflect the increasingly rare and valuable nature of our products, and the durability of our business model,” Meredith Kopit Levien, chief executive of the Times Company, said in a statement.

In recent years, The Times has pushed a digital subscription package, or bundle, that includes access to the news report as well as Wirecutter, Cooking, Games and The Athletic sports news site. Digital-only subscribers, who have subscriptions to individual Times products or to the bundle, now make up the vast majority of the company’s subscriber base, accounting for about 12.8 million of its 13.35 million subscribers.

Print subscriptions have gradually but relentlessly declined. The Times now has 550,000 print subscribers, down from 580,000 in the second quarter of 2025.

The Times forecast a 12 to 15 percent increase in digital-only subscription revenue and a mid-to-high teens increase in digital advertising revenue in the third quarter of 2026, as well as an 8 to 9 percent increase in adjusted operating costs.
