Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC) faces a recommendation of censure as the House Ethics Committee has determined the extensive list of allegations that he creeped on women staffers in his office are credible.
“At the completion of its investigation, the Committee concluded there was substantial reason to believe Representative Edwards violated House Rules related to sexual harassment and hostile workplaces,” stated the committee’s release. “The Committee therefore has recommended that the House of Representatives adopt the Report, and with it, a censure of Representative Edwards for the conduct described therein.
The release said that the committee intends “to bring a privileged resolution for consideration and vote by the full House” on censure.
Edwards, who was first elected to his Western North Carolina congressional seat in 2022 after a bitter primary battle with another scandal-plagued Republican, has been accused of a variety of unwanted advances against women in his office, all while being married.
In one incident detailed last month, Edwards gave staffers blue and pink handguns as personal gifts.
In another incident, he took a staffer on a trip to Las Vegas and showered her with gifts, including “a custom puzzle that, when assembled, revealed an image of actor Adam Sandler alongside a handwritten note inviting the staffer to attend one of Sandler’s comedy shows with him.”
