‘Can they deliver?’ Frantic Trump turns to tech bros as weapon stockpile dwindles

President Donald Trump faces a critical weapons shortage as his war with Iran continues — and now he’s turning to an unlikely source for help: tech bros.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth conferred an urgent meeting with a number of defense technology startups to get help with improving the military’s operational efficiency, according to The Washington Post’s Thursday morning report.

“Leading defense tech firms were summoned,” the report stated, “including AI-aircraft software company Shield AI, the autonomous weapons firm Anduril, cruise missile start-up CoAspire and low-cost munitions maker Castelion.”

The Iran war has reduced America’s munitions stockpiles, a problem exacerbated by the fact that some experts say they weren’t prepared for the level of damage and losses they would sustain from Iranian drone warfare.

Trump’s administration has both tried to deny a shortage and blame former President Biden for it — sometimes in the same interview.

According to the Washington Post, this crisis represents “a major test for the Trump administration, which has turbocharged its relationship with Silicon Valley and made collaboration with start-ups a core part of its weapons acquisition process.”

Jerry McGinn, the director of the Center for the Industrial Base at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, told the Post he’s skeptical Trump and the tech bros can pull off their plans.

“It’s one thing to build … it’s another thing to then mass produce,” said McGinn. “Can they deliver?”
