‘Too crazy for Trump’: MAGA congressional candidate dogpiled after major presidential snub

Valentina Gomez, a GOP congressional candidate in Texas known for her inflammatory and Islamophobic rhetoric, was snubbed Thursday after President Donald Trump endorsed her Republican opponent in the race for Texas’ 31st Congressional District.

Having repeatedly described herself as the “female version of Trump,” Gomez’s failure to secure the president’s endorsement was met with ridicule by critics, with some, like X user and political commentator “AC” labeling her as being “too crazy for Trump.”

Gomez has leaned heavily into Islamophobic messaging during her campaign, burning a copy of the Quran – the central religious text of Islam – in one of her campaign ads, while vowing to “end Islam in Texas” if elected. She’s also drawn scrutiny for promoting violent rhetoric, such as a video she published of her shooting a dummy in the back of its head, which she promoted as a “cheaper” alternative to deportation for undocumented migrants.

“Imagine running on hate and still not being hateful enough for Trump to endorse you,” wrote Jamison Eklund, another political commentator on X who’s amassed more than 17,000 followers.

An immigrant of Columbia, Gomez immigrated to the United States in 2009, launching a failed bid for secretary of state in Missouri shortly thereafter and finishing in sixth place in the GOP primary election with less than 7.5% of the vote. On her fundraising page, she pledges to “go after the pedophiles, criminals and corrupt politicans,” the latter likely being a misspelling of “politicians.”

“Even [Trump] can spot a fool,” wrote X user “RLes Santos,” whose profile says they’re a retired U.S. Marine.

In September, Gomez called on the FBI to protect her citing a wave of threats she received in response to her inflammatory statements, which included having “called for the murder of all two billion Muslims,” and calling Muslims “rapists” and “pedophiles.”
