Trump’s election security boogeyman revealed to be embedded across admin

A Democratic lawmaker revealed that the “software glitch” responsible for allowing illegal voter registrations in New Jersey was from a company that is used across the Trump administration.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ) told CNN anchor Jake Tapper on Wednesday that the same company responsible for the glitch also works in federal agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration.

Gottheimer responded to the news announced by Democratic New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill and brought up a serious concern.

“Our new governor, Gov. Sherrill, is on top of it, right?” Gottheimer said. “I mean, immediately took action, [she] went back and said, ‘Where was the problem?’ [She] is going to take those people off the rolls and is dealing with it. But obviously, the key is to make sure we don’t have these kinds of technology glitches.”

He also raised how the ordeal had raised further questions about the company’s ties to the government and the Trump administration.

“The one thing that no one is talking about is the company IDEMIA, which is behind this, is the software that screwed this up,” Gottheimer added. “[It] is actually all over the federal government and doing work in places like the Department of Homeland Security on CBP for facial recognition, and TSA PreCheck … They run the software for that. So the question is, is our national security safe with them at the helm? Actually designing all this software?”

Gottheimer explained that he wrote a letter to the U.S. General Services Administration and the Office of Management and Budget to find out if there was an audit of IDEMIA underway and looking to see if other glitches should concern lawmakers.
