‘Truly incredible’: Erin Burnett floored as Trump’s financial forms undercut key claim

President Donald Trump’s recently released financial disclosure forms have generated a lot of press, but there is one figure that seems to undercut one of the president’s key claims.

Trump has publicly claimed that he generated more than $2.4 billion in income during his first year as president because the stock market did well. However, Trump’s financial forms say he made exactly nothing from the stock market, even though he placed a lot of trades, according to Dan Alexander, a senior editor at Forbes who investigated the president’s finances.

Alexander discussed the investigation’s findings with CNN’s Erin Burnett on her show, “Erin Burnett OutFront.” She was struck by Alexander’s explanation.

“That might be the most clear-cut answer I’ve gotten in a long time,” Burnett said.

Alexander and Burnett also walked through several other questionable financial transactions from the Trump administration. For instance, Alexander pointed out that Trump’s sons could receive payments from a hedge fund they launched during the second administration that has since grown to more than $3.5 billion in assets. That would mean they would be getting paid even if their investments tank, Alexander added.

“Truly incredible,” Burnett said.
