President Donald Trump has signaled who he would like to be president in 2028 — and it’s not Vice President JD Vance or Secretary of State Marco Rubio, an analyst revealed on Monday.
Jonathan V. Last, editor of The Bulwark, argued that Trump Media & Technology Group — the parent company of the president’s Truth Social platform — has moved to launch a new product giving subscribers access to posts before they go live in the public feed, calling it potentially “the greatest trick in the history of insider trading.”
It would give Trump and his family access to information before it’s released to the public, and allow them to sell off that information — all tied to market manipulation, social media platforms and stock trading, Last wrote. And it’s complicated.
“But believe me: This story is fascinating,” Last wrote. “It demonstrates Trump’s animal cunning. And it points to yet another vulnerability in America’s economic and social order. One that we hadn’t even realized existed.”
“Oh—and it also hints at why there’s a good chance Don Jr. runs for president,” Last argued.
Last described how financial ties to the Trump family and the social media platform could be motivating the business decision.
“Like the ballroom, the underground bunker, the attempt to monkey with the midterm elections, the Trump 2028 hats, and much else, I take Truth API as another signal that Trump does not intend to let ownership of the Republican Party pass to someone outside his family,” Last wrote.
“There’s simply too much money to be made,” Last argued. “He keeps building infrastructure for his family to make money from ownership of the party. Truth API is another part of that infrastructure. Do you think he’s building it just so he can abandon it 28 months from now?”
“Truth API is worth probably a few hundred million dollars a year if a Trump is president, or is presumed to have a 50-50 chance to be president,” Last wrote.
But there is a catch.
“It is worth zero dollars if Marco Rubio or JD Vance is president,” he added.
