‘Slanderous!’ Vance claims he doesn’t see ‘simmering antisemitism’ on the right

Vice President JD Vance said on Thursday that he doesn’t see the “simmering antisemitism” on the right, as some of his Republican colleagues have claimed, according to a new report.

Vance told NBC News in an interview that it is “anti-American” to judge someone by their immutable characteristics, and that he doesn’t see “simmering antisemitism” in young conservatives he engages with. His comments happened at a time when other Republicans like Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX), who appears to be positioning himself to challenge Vance in 2028, are calling out antisemitism within the Republican Party.

“Do I think that the Republican Party is substantially more antisemitic than it was 10 or 15 years ago? Absolutely not,” Vance told the outlet. “In any bunch of apples, you have bad people. But my attitude on this is we should be firm in saying antisemitism and racism is wrong. … I think it’s kind of slanderous to say that the Republican Party, the conservative movement, is extremely antisemitic.”

Concerns about antisemitism in the Republican Party have been growing since former Fox News host Tucker Carlson interviewed avowed antisemite Nick Fuentes on his popular podcast. Fuentes had previously been seen as a pariah on the right because of his views on race and gender norms. Some Republican commentators said the interview “normalized” Fuentes and his extreme views.
