President Donald Trump, 80, really wants defense contractors to “do magnets,” according to a new report.
Trump delivered a rambling rant the Pennsylvania Defense & Innovation Summit on Wednesday that left attendees scratching their heads, the Daily Beast reported Thursday morning.
“I hope you’re gonna do magnets,” Trump reportedly said. “Somebody out there, I hope, you’re all brilliant people, magnets.”
According to the report, Trump praised the attendees but then quickly returned to his new favorite subject. Magnets.
“You’re doing a lot of great stuff,” he said. “Do magnets. Because one thing we don’t have, but we are getting close, but do magnets.”
Trump has a long history of magnet rants that lack factual accuracy, the Daily Beast noted.
“He told Fox News in November that magnets were vital to new technologies being developed in the United States, while also marveling that ‘nobody knows what a magnet is,” the Daily Beast’s Will Neal wrote.
“That is not true. Physicists Hans Christian Ørsted, André-Marie Ampère, Michael Faraday, and James Clerk Maxwell formulated a set of equations in the 19th century to explain how electric currents in certain metals interact to underlie magnetic phenomena.”
