President Donald Trump celebrated on Truth Social a June consumer price index decline of 0.4% and an annual inflation rate of 3.5%, claiming credit for reducing “Democrat-caused inflation.”
“Great News America!” He began, “The Dumocrat caused inflation is way down from what it had been, and we will bring it down still further. MAGA!”
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) reacted to Trump’s claims, writing, “Media doesn’t want you to know this.” He, however, attached a CNBC clip reporting the news.
Political commentator Andy Ostroy fact-checked Cruz, pointing out a critical detail: inflation stood at 3% on January 20, 2025, when Former President Joe Biden left office, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Furthermore, Ostroy clarified, with inflation now at 3.5%, the rate has actually increased since Trump took office, not decreased.
