President Donald Trump just pulled off a shocking power grab as election season heats up, and it barely registered on the radar, according to one analyst.
Last week, Trump dismissed the three remaining members of the Election Assistance Commission, a little-known agency that helps states ensure their elections run smoothly and safely. The move happened at a time when Trump’s rhetoric about election integrity is becoming increasingly dark. Courts have rebuffed his administration’s attempts to gain access to state voter data, but the president appears persistent in his efforts to meddle in the upcoming midterm elections, which public polling suggests favor Democrats by a significant margin.
David Pakman, host of the liberal “David Pakman Show” on YouTube, said in a new reaction video that the move was a “shocking election power grab” and that the “blockbuster” story deserved more attention.
“If you believe we need more oversight into elections, you don’t gut the agency that is providing resources to do oversight over elections,” Pakman said. “That’s the bottom line. This is a huge story, and it is just not getting the attention that it deserves.”
