‘It’s so bad’: Ex-prosecutor says Todd Blanche’s confirmation hangs on key question

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche will need to provide the right answers on one certain topic if expects the Senate to confirm his position as chief of the Justice department, a former federal prosecutor argued Sunday.

Joyce Vance, a former U.S. attorney appointed by former President Barack Obama, appeared on MS NOW Sunday morning to reveal the reasons Blanche might prove unable to present himself as a trustworthy attorney general.

“He made those promises during his confirmation hearing to be the deputy,” said Vance. “He said he wouldn’t let political considerations enter the calculation at his Justice department. And then he did exactly the opposite of that.”

To prove her point, Vance pointed to Blanche’s decision last week to haul FBI Director Kash Patel into the White House and order him to investigate New York Times reporting on President Donald Trump’s $4 million Qatari jet.

Reporters linked to the story that so “embarrassed” the president were subsequently issued subpoenas.

“That’s not how the Justice department should operate,” said Vance. “It’s so bad.”

This is just one among a litany of moves the Justice department has made that have raised the specter of political bias, Vance argued.

And those decisions will all come under scrutiny from Judiciary Committee senators who remain undecided about whether to confirm Blanche’s nomination on Wednesday, as was reported Sunday by the New York Times.

“Just a single no vote from a Republican would deadlock the committee and effectively sink the confirmation of Mr. Blanche, who became the Justice Department’s acting leader after Pam Bondi was fired in April,” the Times reported.

“That gives Republicans on the panel rare leverage to extract concrete concessions from Mr. Blanche.”

Vance then revealed the “important thing” to watch will be how Blanche answers senators’ questions when it comes to the release of information about one issue in particular: The files pertaining to Jeffrey Epstein.

“The way the Epstein files release was mishandled, protecting predators, protecting perpetrators, and disclosing information about survivors?” she said. “Blanche has a lot to answer for.”
