‘The numbers don’t add up’: MAGA host sees through new Trump plan to end income taxes

Pro-MAGA host Gina Loudon said she didn’t buy President Donald Trump’s claim that he could use tariff revenues to abolish income taxes.

“I believe that at some point in the not too distant future, you won’t even have income tax,” Trump said earlier this week. “Because the money we’re taking in, it’s so great, it’s so enormous that you’re not going to have income tax to pay.”

During a Thursday discussion on Real America’s Voice, Loudon doubted Trump’s lofty claims.

“But there’s a problem. Economists, lawmakers, even some Republicans, are asking, is this feasible?” she explained.

RAV White House correspondent Brian Glenn called the idea “a great litmus test for the American people, who they need to vote for.”

“That would be amazing,” Loudon remarked. “Do the numbers add up, though? Because I was listening to a couple of economists on this who are saying even with the best projections, the numbers don’t add up.”

“So I really want to get to the truth on this,” she added.

Glenn, however, dismissed the economists.

“It’s certainly a great idea,” he said. “I mean, my social media lit up in the last couple of days since President Trump’s in that cabinet meeting, but it’s popular by the people, so if they went to a vote, Dr. Gina, and we had to vote on it for the people, I think we’re going to vote, let’s get rid of it.”

Co-host David Brody also seemed doubtful about the plan.

“Wouldn’t that be great?” Brody remarked. “And that reminds me of, you know, changing the Constitution, right? It’s the amendment there in the Constitution. So, we’ll see.”

According to Politifact, the U.S. has brought in $167 billion from tariffs imposed by Trump in his second term.

“The federal income tax, meanwhile, brought in about $2.4 trillion in 2024, which is more than 14 times what Trump’s second-term tariffs are generating,” the outlet reported.

Taxpayers for Common Sense President Steve Ellis insisted that it was “not remotely possible that tariffs could be used to eliminate the income tax.”
