‘Stories don’t stack up’: Pete Hegseth’s latest spin on boat attack blown out of the water

The latest explanation coming out of the Pentagon over the secondary attack on survivors on a purported drug boat in response to “Kill them all” orders from Defense Department Secretary Pete Hegseth was thoroughly dismantled on MS NOW on Thursday morning.

Late Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal reported that Adm. Frank Bradley is poised to tell lawmakers that it was his belief that the two survivors clinging to the side of the flaming boat “were attempting to continue their drug run, making them and the already-damaged vessel legitimate targets for another attack.”

Not one member of the “Morning Joe” panel bought the story, with co-host Joe Scarborough blurting, “That’s today’s explanation” over the constantly evolving attempt to put out the firestorm.

“The explanation we’re hearing in a little bit is that maybe these two guys who survived were attempting to get back on the boat and somehow continue the mission, this flaming, smoking vessel,” co-host Willie Geist reported to laughter from the panel.

“Exactly. That these guys were going to climb back on board and continue their drug run,” he added.

Calling the latest spin “insane,” Scarborough interjected, “Oh, does that mean now the new sort of rules of warfare is if you have a prisoner and they’re indefensible and they have a radio, you can shoot them in the head. That’s now the new Hegseth policy: if they have a radio, you can shoot them in the head.”

After the “Morning Joe” co-host added, “They’re making s—t up,” Mika Brzezinski contributed “Utterly ridiculous.”

“Sorry, Pete,” Scarborough ranted. “None of these stories stack up. You were so sure that it was destroyed and incapacitated that you left the room. That’s your story now, are you so stupid that you don’t know when a boat is destroyed and when a boat’s not destroyed? Pete, you can’t have it both ways. You can’t say, ‘Oh, well, it was still on its drug run, and. Oh, well, I saw it get blown up, so I just left the room to go play Parcheesi.”
