‘Deeply disturbed’ senators demand removal of Trump appointee: ‘Betrays every American’

A group of Democratic Senators sent a scathing letter to the heads of the General Services Administration and the Office of Presidential Personnel, arguing that President Donald Trump’s latest appointee “betrays the trust of every American.”

The Democrats, all of whom serve on the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, said in the letter that they were “deeply disturbed” that Trump appointed Paul Ingrassia as the deputy general counsel for the GSA, according to a report by The Hill. The appointment followed Ingrassia’s failed confirmation to lead the Special Counsel’s Office in September.

“It is shocking that GSA and the Office of Presidential Personnel moved forward with this appointment less than a month after President Trump withdrew Mr. Ingrassia’s nomination to lead the Office of Special Counsel,” the letter reads in part. “Let us be clear, Mr. Ingrassia’s continued employment in the U.S. government is unacceptable. His appointment betrays the trust of every American, including those who Mr. Ingrassia has so brazenly disparaged.”

“We demand the immediate removal of Paul Ingrassia from the General Services Administration and from consideration for any other position in this Administration,” it added.

Ingrassia is a right-wing podcaster with a history of making scandalous or inflammatory comments. Politico previously reported on a series of text messages Ingrassia sent his colleagues, saying he has a “Nazi streak” in him and that the Martin Luther King holiday “belongs in hell.”
